Between 16th and 18th of May, mountain bikers will compete in the Student Polish Championships in Jelenia Góra. 110 women and 204 men have signed up for the event, including the best and most title-winning athletes.
“Such numbers of applications are unparalleled among cross-country races in Poland.” – comments Grzegorz Miedziński from the University Club of the Wrocław University of Technology AZS (Students Sport Association) in the Jelenia Góra Branch that organizes the event – “Naturally, apart from the Polish leaders, the Jelenia Góra event will see many amateurs who will regard the competition rather as a way to test one’s abilities, as well as an opportunity to represent their university. Nonetheless, over 300 participants of an XCO race is an impressive number.”
According to the new technical regulations, the individual time trial will be, in a way, a qualifying round for the main race, in which the best 70% of the competitors will take part. The remaining 30% will not start in the Sunday race but their results from the individual part will be taken into account in the team classification.
Student Polish Championships are a qualifying round for the Student World Championships. Therefore, in Jelenia Góra we will see the best athletes, including: Katarzyna Solus-Miśkowicz, Paula Gorycka, Marta Turoboś, Marek Konwa, Piotr Kurczab, Mariusz Kozak, Mariusz Kozak and Marcin Kawalec. As part of the event, an extra race will be held that will be the first edition of the AZS MTB CUP.
