Dawid Ozga, Tomasz Godlewski, Maciej Bielarczyk and Zbigniew Żelazny from the Vehicles and Mobile Robots Scientific Circle qualified for the finals of an international competition.
Their task was to submit an idea for innovation in the automotive industry that could applied in production vehicles in 2030. The students learned about the competition at the beginning of the year, submitted their idea in February, and in mid-April they were informed that they have a chance to qualify for the finals.
The Wrocław University of Technology team proved the best in Poland, was ranked in the top 5 in Europe, and ultimately qualified to the world finals. 20 out of 969 teams from all over the world qualified for the finals, including ones from the USA, China, India, and Russia.
“I admit it was a huge surprise to find out that we qualified for the finals.” – says Zbigniew Żelazny, manager of the team – “Especially that the number of participants was really impressive.”
The students have a busy period before them. The interdisciplinary team – Dawid Ozga, Tomasz Godlewski, Maciej Bielarczyk and Zbigniew Żelazny – must build a partially working prototype of the invention (a mockup) until August. “The project itself is secret and, as for now, no information may be revealed about it. Such are the rules of the competition.” – explains Zbigniew Żelazny.
The jury, composed of world experts from the automotive industry, will choose three teams that will be able to present their achievements at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014.
The main prize in the competition is 100 000 EUR.
