First such robot race in July at our University

23.04.2014 | Aktualizacja: 23.04.2014 08:35

Robots and other remotely controlled models will take part in the “autonomous drift”, i.e. a race in which vehicles are purposely put into a skid that is then skillfully controlled. This will be the first race of this type in Poland.
The “Robo-Drift” will be organized in July by Wrocław University of Technology, the “Synergia” Inter-faculty Scientific Circle of Mechatronics, and the “Progresja” Association for the Development of Culture and Science.
The vehicles will have the opportunity to participate in the time race (“time attack”) or in the competition where their performance will be assessed by a jury (“freestyle”). The jury will take into account the creativity and imagination of the designers and the solutions applied by them.
In the time race, there will be three categories:
• RC-Standard: only for RC vehicles that are mass-produced or based on standard parts available on the model building market, not modified by the team. The category will be divided into sub-categories, depending on scale and type of vehicles.
• Mobile-Open: for vehicles built entirely by the teams, both remotely controlled and autonomous. The vehicles, however, have to meet two requirements: they must be not larger than 600 × 800 mm (half of a EUR-pallet) and travel a distance of 10 metres with a load of 2,3 kg.
• Robo-Drift: for vehicles self-designed and self-built by the teams (both remotely controlled and autonomous) with a running gear consisting of two axles, including the front steering axle. The vehicle should be based on the structure of a car.
As the organizers emphasize, taking part in the autonomous drift is an especially difficult task, as it requires designing a high-quality structure, including sensors and control devices that will allow the vehicle to travel and go through corners in a drift, without the participation of a human.
The competition will be held on 5th July at 12 o’clock on the car park next to the Students Culture Zone, on a 2-metre wide concrete track, flanked with OSB boards.
Registration of teams willing to take part in the Robo-Drift competition will start soon. The teams may start with as many vehicles as they want. Detailed rules of the competition have been posted on the competition website.
