It’s the second year in a row that Agata Popieluch has won medals at the Students Polish Championships The Wrocław University of Technology student won two medals at the Students Polish Championships in Alpine Skiing. She won silver medal in the giant slalom and bronze medal in the slalom competition in the classification of technical universities. “Agata is a student of Faculty of Architecture and this is the second time in a row she has won medals in the championships.” – says Tomasz Knapp, her coach – “As usual, the rivalry for the highest places was decided between teams from Kraków, Poznań, and Silesia. Hence, it is very satisfying that a student of our University has found her place among them. Our remaining representatives, who in majority were making their debut in the championships, achieved results corresponding to their current capabilities which, however, were not enough to reach the finals. Among men, the competition has been much tougher for many years. Former and current competitors from the Polish national crew take part in the championships, so it is very difficult to win a medal both in individual and team competitions. That’s why we are very glad that two of our representatives – Maciej Kozera and Wiktor Konopelski – managed to qualify for the finals. “Unfortunately, without great success.” – says Tomasz Knap. He adds that the results of both men’s and women’s team competitions show that you need at least three competitors in each final to be able to run for the podium. “During our talks with coaches from other universities, it turned out that this can be only guaranteed by special training camps organized in the Alpine glaciers starting from November. And this is our plan for the future.” – says the coach. *** Students Polish Championships in Alpine Skiing were held on the Harenda hill in Zakopane between 3rd and 7th March.
