Projekt Puszka (“The Can Project”) has already started preparations for the Juwenalia student festival. Wrocław University of Technology students usually don’t disclose the kind of vehicle they are going to build out of the aluminum cans. However, they told us that this year the vehicle will be much larger than the previous ones. Therefore, they need your help.
How can you help? By throwing cans, not only beer cans but also ones used for other beverages, into special containers of Projekt Puszka. You can find them in the Wrocław University of Technology dormitories: T-4, T-15, T-16, T-17, as well as in the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences dormitory Zodiak. You may also collect a larger number of cans and deliver them directly to the project organizers in an agreed upon time and place. The cans should be empty and not crushed.
This year, Projekt Puszka will be organized for the sixth time. It’s a students activity with an ecological message. For a few months, students and graduates (not only from Wrocław University of Technology) collect aluminum cans out of which they then build unusual vehicles. The vehicles are presented during the Juwenalia march, as well as during the Ekonomalia (a similar event organized by students of Wrocław University of Economics) or the Odra River Cup rowing regattas. Two years ago they made a replica of the Trabant car and last year - a tram car for which they used 4 000 cans. Building the vehicle took them two weeks.
“This year we are preparing something much larger and that’s why we need many more cans.” - says Katarzyna Wiśniewska, one of the persons involved in the project - “Of course, we are not going to disclose the type of vehicle we are building. It’s supposed to be a surprise!”
For the time being, the students keep the cans in three store-rooms of Wrocław University of Technology but they are already full. So far, they have collected over 10,5 thousand aluminum cans.
After presentation, the vehicle is dismantled and the cans are sold. The income is spent on charity purposes.
Since last year, Projekt Puszka has been supported by the Recal Foundation for the Recycling of Beverage Cans. The Foundation provided the students e.g. with convenient containers with bags where people can throw the cans.
Projekt Puszka is also open for sponsoring co-operation with other companies.
You can find more about the idea of the students on their website.
