A delegation from the Chilean Coquimbo Region, headed by the local government Prime Minister, Juan Manuel Fenzalida, visited Wrocław University of Technology. On Monday, the guests from South America met with Rector, Prof. Tadeusz Więckowski, among other people.
During the meeting that took place in the Old Senate Room, Prof. Cezary Madryas, Vice-Rector for Development, familiarized the guests with the organization of the University, as well as its educational and research activity.
“Our guests were especially interested in co-operation with three of our faculties: the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and the Faculty of Chemistry.” – told us Rector, Prof. Tadeusz Więckowski after the meeting. Also the Chileans are interested in co-operation with our University. This year they plan to double their production of copper and therefore they need engineers, specialists in mining and transportation.
So far, we have had only three students from Chile, maybe the numbers will increase as a result of this visit.
The guests also had an opportunity to visit the new Geocentrum building complex. After passing the Odra river with the “Polinka” cable car, they visited e.g. the laboratories of the Institute of Mining.
The participants of the Monday meeting, which may result in co-operation between the Chilean La Serena University and Wrocław University of Technology, included e.g.: Pablo Muñoz, Miguel Angel Rebolledo, Jose Montoya, and Federico Arcos – councillors of the Coquimbo Region, as well as Zbigniew Sebastian, Chilean Honorary Consul in Wrocław, Stanisław Ślusarczyk, DSc, Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology, and Gabriela Paszkowska, DSc, Vice-Director for Education and International Co-operation at the Institute of Mining.
