Hundreds of events in the city, thousands of people involved in their organization and efficient performance, dozens of thousands interested people in the age of 2 to 102 years. On Wednesday, the Wrocław part of the 14th Lower Silesian Science Festival was closed.
- In the future, the phenomenon of Lower Silesian Science Festival will be an object of scientific research – said Prof. Tadeusz Więckowski, Rector of Wrocław University of Technology during the ceremony of closing the Wrocław part of the Festival in the University Aula. Rector added that this enterprise would not be successful if it were not for the hundreds of enthusiasts preparing the Festival events but also for the thousands of young people who come to take part in them. Prof. Kazimierz Orzechowski, the Festival Inter-university Coordinator said: - The Festival aims to present the most important and most interesting aspects of science in a nutshell. But the most important thing is the passion of the over 5000 people involved in ensuring an efficient organization of the Festival.
Mariusz Czerkawski, a former ice-hockey player, was a special guest of the Festival. He spoke about the beginning of his career when he was eight and started to play in the GKS Tychy team. In 1992 he was already member of the Polish representation at the Olympic Games in Albertville. - For 12 years I played in various teams of the NHL league but I never managed to win the Stanley Cup. Many teams from the USA and Canada competed for it – he recollected. Today, he is the president of the Sport7 association that propagates sport among children and youth. - You need to set your aims step by step – he encouraged. – Do not try to reach the highest peak from the beginning - he said.
Czerkawski handed one of his jerseys to Rector. Prof. Więckowski announced that he will sell it on an auction during the Wrocław University of Technology Charity Ball that will be held in January 2014. During this annual event, money is collected for grants for disabled students of the University.
The anthem of the Festival sounded and the Wrocław part of the 14th Lower Silesian Science Festival came to an end. Starting from Thursday, Festival events will be held in other cities of Lower Silesia.
