Monika Kuszyńska, former vocalist of the Varius Manx band, performed on Monday, 2nd December, in the Wrocław University of Technology Aula that was filled to the brims. The concert initiated the celebrations of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Kuszyńska performed songs from her solo record “Ocalona” (“Saved”). They all come from the period 2006-2013, that is the time after a serious car accident as a result of which she moves on a wheelchair. “These songs make up a private record of the emotions that I have been experiencing since the accident.” – explained Kuszyńska – “We can use everything we are given in our lives for our benefit.” The lyrics of the songs performed focused on considerations about happiness. They pointed out that to be happy one must see the sense of his or her life and be able to enjoy even little things. “If we look around carefully, we will see that there is plenty of goodness and beauty.” – she emphasized – “It is important to see it also when we have a difficult time.”
youtube Kuszyńska also spoke about the people she met in her life. “I owe really much to the vocalist Beata Bednarz.” – she said – “It was her that convinced me to return to the stage after the accident. She explained to me that singing is not about running around the stage but about the value of the message we have for the audience.” Kuszyńska also thanked the organizers for providing a ramp with the use of which she could get on the stage on her own. “It’s nice that you thought about it.” – she said – “It isn’t always like that and then I have to rely on other people’s help. I will tell about this ramp during my future performances.” At the end, Kuszyńska wished the spectators that they felt needed by others. “Fight your weaknesses.” – she encouraged – “It will make you strong and happy that you managed to achieve something in your lives.” Leszek Kopeć from the Wrocław Polish Radio music desk summarized: “Monika reminded us about something that we apparently know but we need to be constantly reminded.” Maria Lewowska Translation: Dariusz Więcławski
