“Wrocław University of Technology has its own rhododendrons, magnolias, and fruit trees. We have mushrooms here, too.” – says Halina Lipińska, a gardener working for the University. On Friday, while planting a lime-tree next to one of the University car parks, she found a bunch of shapely honey fungi on a tree trunk. “I will give them to my husband who has a gift for making mushroom preserves. This year, he has already made preserves of leccinum, porcino, saffron milk cap, and now he is making marinade for the honey fungi.” – says the gardener. Halina Lipińska, a graduate of Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, is the only gardener working at Wrocław University of Technology. She is responsible for large green areas of the entire University. “I am using the help of all the friendly people.” – she says – “Fortunately, there are quite a lot of them, so the surrounding of the University buildings looks really beautiful. I am proud to say that in the courtyard of the ‘A’ buildings, one can find no less than seven species of rhododendrons (I do not even try to count the varieties). One of them, the Von Oheim Woslowitz, was bought at the Wojsławice arboretum.” “I am trying, as much as possible, to create collections of plants.” – says Lipińska – “I can be especially proud of the collection of rhododendrons.” Gardening is not only her job, but also her passion. For example, she enthusiastically talks about the pear tree near the C-7 building, the sweet cherry tree close to the C-13 building or fruit trees located next to the Faculty of Chemistry buildings in Gdańska St. When she has some free time and is not engaged in gardening or household duties (which is not too often), she likes to renovate old furniture.
