A group of 12 students of our Faculty of Mechanical Engineering visited Coventry. The trip to Great Britain was part of the project “Mechanical Engineering – studies with good prospects at Wrocław University of Technology”
Their tour lasted from 16 to 20 March. First, they visited the Coventry University Faculty of Engineering and Computing, where they were received by Prof. Mike Blundell, Associate Dean (Enterprise), who acquainted them with the history of the University, as well as the research and projects carried out at the Faculty. They also had the opportunity to see the workplace of the University’s Formula Student team and the wind tunnel. But it was the flight simulator, at which the students could test their plane controlling abilities, that attracted the most interest.
Afterwards, the British hosts could listen to a presentation by Mariusz Ptak, DSc, dedicated to Wrocław University of Technology and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The meeting was concluded with a common lunch during which both teams exchanged experiences and talked about future cooperation.
The students also had a tour of the Coventry Transport Museum, famous for the largest collection of British cars, and visited Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s home town.
During the following days, the students visited e.g. the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, where they met the University students. They also saw the factory where fuel tanks and fillers for such automotive brands, as Jaguar, Ford, and Bentley are manufactured. They also learned that Coventry University students spend part of their studies at the Institute, taking part in the factory’s production process.
The visit at the Land Rover off-road car factory in Solihull brought the students lots of emotion. They had an opportunity to observe the manufacturing process and test their abilities in the latest car models during off-road test drives.
