“In the last 10 years we have managed
to implement almost all technologies applied currently in the world and
we have no reason to feel ashamed.” - says Prof. Jan Biliszczuk from
Wrocław University of Technology, President of the Organizing Committee
of the Wrocław Bridge Days that will be held at our University. “A good bridge designer cannot be just a good theorist.” – emphasizes Prof. Biliszczuk, the head designer of the Rędziński Bridge in Wrocław - the highest and longest cable-stayed bridge in Poland (Ed.) – “Therefore we established the Wrocław Bridge Days to document what is happening in Poland and to talk about what bridges are constructed and designed and in what way. We also discuss mistakes that have appeared so that we can avoid them in the future. Hence, the conference has a very practical character.” The seminar that will commence on 27th November in the D-20 building (Wrocław University of Technology Congress Centre) is entitled “Contemporary bridge construction technologies”. This is already the 10th, jubilee edition of the conference. Each year, the organizers invite key figures in the bridge construction industry. Wrocław has already been visited e.g. by Michael Virlogeux, designer of the Pons de Normandie and Holger Svensson, a famous expert on cable-stayed bridges. This year’s edition of the conference will see a presentation by the noted bridge specialist from Dresden, Jürgen Stritzke, who will talk about bridge infrastructure in the new German member states after the reunification of the country. The agenda includes a lecture on Henryk Żółtowski, a Polish engineer. His greatest work is the “Trasa Zamkowa” in Szczecin. He was the head designer of the bridges and flyovers that have a total length of over 4 km. He conducted and supervised all the design work and supervised its construction in the years 1978-1996. The elements of the “Trasa Zamkowa” were recognized as outstanding engineering achievements. “It’s an important part of our seminar. Our aim is to remind the names of remarkable Polish engineers.” – emphasizes Prof. Biliszczuk. The Wrocław University of Technology Institute of Civil Engineering, the Dolnośląskie Province Chamber of Civil Engineers, and the Association of Bridge Engineers of the Republic of Poland are organizers of the conference.
