Minister of Science and Higher Education
awarded scholarships for young researchers that conduct high-quality research
and have impressive scientific achievements. The awarded researchers will
receive about 5 000 PLN monthly for a period of three years. The laureates
include 11 scientists from Wrocław University of Technology.
The
Ministry’s scholarship pool amounts to 35 million PLN. This is already the 9th
edition of the contest. The scholarships are awarded to researchers that have
not reached the age of 35 who are distinguished by their achievements and
quality of research. The Ministry received 727 applications, assessed them and
chose 202 laureates, representing the humanities, social sciences, art sciences
and artistic work, natural sciences, technical sciences, exact sciences,
agricultural sciences, and medical sciences.
As Lena
Kolarska-Bobińska, Minister of Science and Higher Education, explains on the
Ministry website, the scholarships for outstanding young researchers are a
reward for their scientific passion and crossing scientific boundaries. “Poland
needs innovation. And young people are prone to break barriers and look for new
ideas. Apart from these prestigious awards, young researchers at the start of
their scientific careers can benefit from many other Ministry support
programmes, which they readily do. They are leading competitors for National
Science Centre grants, as well as they receive scholarships as part of the
Iuventus Plus programme.” – emphasizes Prof. Kolarska-Bobińska.
The scholarships
for outstanding young researchers are awarded to employees of universities,
institutes of PAN (Polish Academy of Sciences) or research institutes.
Applications are submitted by their employer. The jury assesses e.g. the
candidate’s scientific achievements, the level of research conducted by
him/her, prizes awarded, and participation in international projects.
