BEST Wrocław is organizing the “No TECH without
MECH” course for the third time. 32 students from entire Europe will
participate in the course. They will study, learn about Wrocław, and integrate.
“This is the best way to gain knowledge and experience.” – says Angelika
Czajczyńska from BEST Wrocław.
The programme of the course is very diverse – from workshops and visits at manufacturing plants, through museum visits, to dancing classes.
“No TECH without MECH” will start on 11th
September and will last 12 days. The participants pay just 15 EUR, since the
course is co-financed by Wrocław University of Technology and sponsors – Wabco
and Ronal.
32 students
will take part in the course: 10 from Wrocław University of Technology and 22
from Romania, Spain, France, Serbia, Croatia, Portugal, Moldova, Russia,
Macedonia, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, and Ukraine. When
applying for the course, they had to draw up a cover letter, fill in a form and
answer a few questions asked by the organizers.
The
academic part of the course was prepared by BEST Wrocław in co-operation with
the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering staff, scientific circles (Rapid
Troopers, Scientific Circle for Vehicles and Mobile Robots, PWR Racing Team),
as well as representatives of Wabco and Ronal companies.
The
programme includes e.g. welding workshops, 3D design workshops, and the
so-called rapid prototyping, during which the participants will have an
opportunity to build models using additive manufacturing techniques, learn how
to build prototypes quickly, and to get acquainted with modern manufacturing
methods. There will also be a lecture entitled “Large scale mechanical
engineering – turbogenerators”, delivered by representatives of the Alstom
Power company and workshops conducted by Wabco employees, at which students
will learn about the Lean Manufacturing system and will build their own
production line.
The
participants will also visit Ronal and Wabco manufacturing plants and take part
in workshops on casting and designing of pneumatic systems.
All the
classes (29 hours altogether) will be conducted in English. The course will end
with a final exam and those who pass it, will obtain certificates.
BEST
Wrocław, which is running the course, is a part of the Board of European Students of Technology, an international
organization gathering technical university students from the entire Europe,
the aim of which is to unite cultures and enable the development and education
of future engineers. In Poland, there are 6 BEST groups, functioning at
technical universities in Gdańsk, Gliwice, Cracow, Łódź, Warsaw, and Wrocław.
BEST Wrocław was established in 2009 at Wrocław University of Technology and
currently has 50 members.
