Intelligent robots, dance demonstrations, mountain climbing trials and spectacular experiments – on Thursday, 50 scientific circles presented their activity at Wrocław University of Technology. The 16th Student Activity Days attracted crowds to the C-13 building (“the cheese house”).
“This event shows your strength. In the scientific circles you gain practical skills, you are creative, and carry out extraordinary projects. Show all the test-tubes and mechanisms to the people who came today for the first time to our university and encourage them to act.” – said Zbigniew Sroka, DSc, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs. He noted that there are over 220 student activity sections at the university.
The exhibitions were loud and colourful. There were some spectacular explosions, too. “You do not need to be afraid. Everything is under control. Today we are making very simple experiments.” – explained Paulina Rybak from the Chemistry Students Scientific Circle “Allin”. The circle is open to all students of the Faculty of Chemistry. “While working with us, one may take part in conferences and innovative research projects.” – she added.
Bartosz Wawrzacz from the Robotics Scientific Circle “KoNaR” said: “There is no idle chit-chat. Good ideas are implemented straight away. It took us just 3 months to make the Calliope robot that can draw a portrait basing on the view from the camera. If a student wants to design similar machines, he or she should come for our workshops. If he can design his or her own machine, then after about 3 months he or she will be admitted to our team.”
Student activity sections functioning at the university also offer a lot of fun. “I started dancing at the Ballroom Dancing Club ‘Iskra’ two years ago. Dancing is a great form of relaxation and rest from learning, it allows to vent emotions and to keep in shape.” – encouraged Paulina Baczyńska, a fourth-year student of Computer Science.
Magdalena Bieliszak from the MANUS Foundation: “For all interested we are organizing a series of trainings that will last until 17th October. There you can learn e.g. how to finance student activity. Who knows, maybe after the workshops some of the students will establish new scientific circles?”
The Student Activity Days were organized by the MANUS Foundation and the Wrocław University of Technology Student Government.
