Wojciech Wodo, a doctoral student of the
Wrocław University of Technology Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology,
has been announced laureate of the 1st edition of the “Impuls” competition,
organized by the Foundation for Polish Science.
His project
took third place and was awarded a financial prize of 80 000 PLN. What’s
the idea behind the project? There are no two single persons that would type on
a computer keyboard in the same way. This fact, treated as a kind of signature,
is used in Wojciech Wodo’s paper on identity protection.
“My project
is based on an idea that our team has been working on for a long time. Our aim
is to build a biometric keyboard that will ensure the user greater anonymity.”
– says the doctoral student. He adds that the prize will allow him to
accelerate some of his activities, such as establishing cooperation with a
business partner. “I want to create a product that could be launched relatively
quickly.”
The
objective of the “Impuls” competition is to promote applicable research and to
develop skills related to the commercialization of research results. 80% of the
prize amount constitutes a subsidy for the implementation of the distinguished
project and 20% is an individual financial support for the researcher.
This is not
the first prize won by Wojciech. In June 2011, he won the “Students’ Noble” in
the category of exact sciences, and at the beginning of 2012 he was awarded the
title “Primus Expert” in the category of IT specialists. He was also a laureate
of the “Top 500 Innovators” contest, thanks to which he completed an internship
at the University of California in Berkeley.
