Joanna Bednarska and Maciej Polak were
announced laureates of the third edition of the Diamond Grant programme
organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. They found
themselves among 86 outstanding young researchers from the entire country,
whose research activity has been appreciated by the Ministry.
Joanna
Bednarska received 190 000 PLN for her project “Absorption two-quantum
spectra of molecules in solutions: simulations from primary bases”, while
Maciej Polak received 200 000 PLN for his project “Calculation, from
primary bases, of the band structure, structural, and optical properties of
mixed semiconductor compounds, produced on the basis of materials with significant
misfit.”
As the
Ministry informs, this year 86 research projects carried out by outstanding
students from Polish universities and institutes will be admitted Diamond
Grants. The distinguished researchers represent three areas of science: Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural and
Medical Sciences, and Exact and Technical Sciences. The students will obtain
over 15 million PLN altogether for their projects. The amount includes funds
for research, as well as for a minimum monthly allowance of 2 500 PLN.
Yt
The aim of
the Diamond Grant is to secure financial independence for the young researchers
and provide them with a quicker way to the doctor’s degree. This is because the
students may become managers of their own research projects already after
obtaining the bachelor’s degree or after finishing third year of studies.
