Małgorzata Szeliga, a
second-year Geodesy student, will take part in Student World Championships in
Foot Orienteering. On 12th August, she will represent Wrocław
University of Technology in the event held in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
The athlete already has a few achievements under her
belt, for example she won the title of Polish Junior Champion. “I started
running already at junior high school in Bolesławiec, my home town. I still
represent the town’s club Tukan Iwiny.” – says Szeliga.
Foot orienteering is a sport discipline, whereby
competitors, equipped with map and compass, have to run along a specified route
on the map. Victory goes to the one who does in in the shortest time. Only
those runners that have been confirmed to reach all the checkpoints in the
right sequence are included in the final classification.
The Student World Championships in Foot Orienteering
will start on 12th August in Olomouc, Czech Republic, and will last
for 5 days. A few competitions, varying in distance, have been planned (sprint,
classic, medium-distance). “I am going to fight for as best place as possible
at the championships. But my satisfaction from the run will be the most important.”
– says Małgorzata Szeliga – “Foot orienteering is an unpredictable sport – you
never know what may happen on the route and who will win.”
“It’s not a frequent case that our athletes represent
the University at Student World Championships. I am all the more happy with her
start and I will support her.” – announces Robert Jarosz, Head of the
Department of Physical Education and Sport at Wrocław University of Technology.
