We are starting on Monday at 5:15 PM. The opening match will see a rivalry between the teams of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – said Sebastian Schneider, one of the organizers of the Interfaculty Football League for the Wrocław University of Technology Rector’s Cup. It is the second edition of the event. Sebastian Schneider is a fourth-year student of the Automatic Control and Robotics specialization. He says that the idea of launching a football league appeared in April 2012. - We acted spontaneously. We just wanted to organize a cyclic sporting competition that would allow the integration of students of the various faculties. We patterned our system on the professional leagues of various countries – summarizes Schneider. The players that represent the faculties often were concerned with sports before but decided to study at Wrocław University of Technology. They treat the competition as a hobby that they are able to reconcile with their studies. There are 12 representations in the league, one for each faculty. The teams play two matches with one another: one in Autumn and one in Spring. The winner is the team that collects the highest number of points. Last season, an indisputable winner of the league was the team representing the Faculty of Environmental Engineering. - The recruitment to the teams is still open. At the student government of each faculty there is a coordinator that decides who will join the team. Students that want to play football in our league should contact them – explains Schneider. All matches are held at the 19th Gymnasium playground at Dembowskiego St. 39 in Wrocław. The opening match will take place on Monday, 7th October at 5:15 PM.
