Adam Sieradzki, DSc, and sportswomen from the Impel Wrocław team will tell children taking part in the Academy of Young Discoverers (AMO) that sport and science have much to do with each other.
The next meeting organized as part of the Academy of Young Discoverers (AMO) project will be devoted to volleyball. Adam Sieradzki, DSc, from the Wrocław University of Technology Institute of Physics, plans to convince the young students that during a volleyball match a lot of interesting things happen, not only in terms of sport rivalry. “How to serve the ball so that it doesn’t rotate? What happens with the player when he or she jumps? It can all be explained in scientific terms.” – says Sieradzki – “I invited professional volleyball players that will present some tricks with the ball and maybe they will disclose what their trainings look like. Our aim is to show a volleyball match from a different perspective.”
Joanna Kaczor (attacker), Katarzyna Mroczkowska (receiver), and Bogumiła Pyziołek (libero) will take part in the lecture. The meeting will be held on 24th May (Saturday) at Wrocław University of Technology in room 322, starting at 9:30 AM.
“During our classes we take up a wide variety of topics.” – says Anna Hajdusianek from Wrocław University of Technology, the head of AMO – “Scientific phenomena surround us everywhere and we want to teach children notice them.” She adds that the Saturday’s lecture is mainly for the AMO students. “Should there be enough space, we invite everyone else interested in science.” – assures Anna Hajdusianek.

** The Academy of Young Discoverers (AMO) is a free of charge round of popular science lectures, initiated by Anna Hajdusianek, DSc, from the Wrocław University of Technology Institute of Physics. The lectures are addressed to children from primary and middle schools. The Academy starts in October with the ceremony of handing in student books and ends in June, when AMO diplomas are awarded to the students. The AMO meetings are held once a month. The lectures are delivered by Wrocław University of Technology scientists with topics related to exact sciences in a broad meaning. This year, AMO is being organized already for the 6th time.
