Already for 11th time, the Wrocław
Botanical Garden hosted graduates – authors of the best diploma theses.
This year, the prizes for first and second place went to Tomasz Kisiel
and Paulina Mędryk – graduates, and currently doctoral students, of
Wrocław University of Technology.
Tomasz Kisiel collected an impressive 99 points out of the maximum of 100 and won the main prize – 10 000 PLN. His diploma thesis “Simulation model of a logistic support system at the Wrocław Copernicus Airport” was announced the best in this year’s edition of the contest. “This work was very time-consuming.” – admitted the Wrocław University of Technology doctoral student – “The sole making of the model took me half a year. I owe really much to the employees of the airport that I cooperated with. I carried out my research during the EURO 2012 championships, I had no special pass, so one of the employees was assigned to accompany me at my research.”
“The work on the project took one year. Quite a number of people were involved in it: Artur Kieszkowski, DSc, the substantive help of Prof. Tomasz Nowakowski from the Chair of Logistics and Transportation Systems.” – enumerates Marcin Plewa, DSc, the thesis promoter. Thanks to the prized thesis, funds from the National Centre for Research and Development have been awarded for the continuation of the research.
Second place (86 points) was also taken by our graduate, Paulina Mędrek, and her thesis “Day care centre for people with physical and intellectual disabilities at Adama Mickiewicza St. 40-44”. For her thesis, Paulina Mędrek received a prize of 5 000 PLN. “Work with such a talented student was real pleasure.” – said Prof. Krystyna Kirschke from the Wrocław University of Technology Faculty of Architecture, promoter of the thesis.
Prof. Andrzej Szczurek, who for many years has been nominating our University graduates’ theses to the contest, was moved with the topic of the paper. “This is an attempt to create a specialist centre for people requiring constant care that would be located in the city centre and not in the peripheries.” – said Prof. Szczurek.
Applications to this year’s edition of the “Wrocławskie Magnolie” contest could be filed until the end of January. MA theses, defended in the academic year 2012/2013, dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life of Wrocław citizens were assessed. 28 applications were submitted to the Wrocław Academic Centre at the Municipal Office, which coordinates the project and the conduct of the competition. The prizes were handed e.g. by Adam Grehl, Deputy Mayor of Wrocław, Jacek Ossowski, President of the Wrocław City Council, and Prof. Tadeusz Luty, Mayor of Wrocław’s Advisor for Cooperation with Universities.
