On Saturday, on the Solidarność 80 Esplanade of the European Parliament in Brussels, an interactive exhibition “Together we are” will be held. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Poland’s membership in the EU, representatives of the respective regions of our country will present themselves at the fair. Dolnośląskie will be represented by the “KoNaR” Scientific Circle of Robotics, showing two robots.
The delegation of robots to Brussels will be composed of Balbina and Calliope. The former is a social robot that can talk with people and express emotions. It was built by the “KoNaR” a few years ago. The latter is a drawing robot with a weight of ca. 50 kg. It takes a photograph and basing on it, it makes a drawing.
“At various fairs and exhibitions, we offer the visitors that Calliope draws a portrait of them. And we will do the same in Brussels.” – says Adrian Gałęziowski, President of the “KoNaR”.
Calliope won first place in the category of drawing robots in the RoboGames 2013 competition in the USA.
On Friday morning, 6 members of the “KoNaR” will leave for Brussels in a minibus. They will be back on Sunday evening. On the esplanade they will have their own stand, like the remaining Polish regions. Each robot will be controlled by two persons, while two other will answer questions asked by the visitors, as well as explain the way the robots work and talk about the activities taken by the scientific circle at Wrocław University of Technology.
The exhibition on the Solidarność 80 Esplanade will commence at 10 AM and will last until 6 PM. It will be officially opened by Marek Prawda, Polish Permanent Representative to the European Union, and Artur Harazim, Polish Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium.
The “KoNaR” Scientific Circle of Robotics was established in 2003 at the Institute of Computer Science, Control Engineering and Robotics of the Faculty of Electronics. It was founded by Łukasz Małek, DSc, a fourth-year student at that time. The scientific circle builds robots and organizes competitions in which they can contend one another.
